Vaginal Infections

One of the most common gynecological problems experienced by women is vaginal discharge. These can be normal physiological vaginal discharges as well as pathological vaginal discharges due to any infection.

The vagina region consists of a canal with a curved structure of approximately 8 to 10 centimeters. It is adjacent to the urethra, known as the urinary canal. Their duties are normal birth, expulsion of menstrual blood and providing sexual intercourse. Vaginal discharge functional in cases of hormonal changes; As a result of sexual stimulation, it is considered normal before menstruation and during pregnancy. In these cases, the currents are homogeneous and transparent.

Infection-related discharges can be seen in different ways. Abnormal discharge is a symptom of any problem in the reproductive organs. These problems can be listed as follows;

Fungal infections-Candida Albicans; Fungus infection, which is known as fungus among the people, gives symptoms with abundant itchy, cheese-like consistency and odorless discharge. Along with the discharge, symptoms such as itching and burning also occur.

Bacterial vaginosis; It presents with a yellowish foamy consistency and a foul-smelling discharge. There is also the problem of painful sexual intercourse.

Uterine cancer; It presents with a foul-smelling and bloody discharge.

Vaginal infections are usually treated with oral medications or with the help of various creams and lotions. However, it is necessary to know the ways of protection from vaginal infections and to apply them properly.

Ways to Prevent Vaginal Infections

Wearing tight clothing should be avoided.

Vaginal douching should not be done.

Cotton underwear should be preferred. Underwear should be changed frequently.

Any sprays, creams and perfumed products should not come into contact with the genital area.

Care should be taken not to change the sexual partner frequently. Condoms must be used during sexual intercourse.

Ideal weight should be maintained.

Heavy sports should be avoided.

Wet and damp swimwear should be changed after activities such as swimming.

Care should be taken that the genital area is not moist.
