Gynecologist Nagihan Saz said that the pain felt especially in the last three months of pregnancy, expectant mothers panicked because they thought it was labor pain, and warned about the pains that occur during pregnancy.

60-70 percent of our patients who applied with the thought that labor has begun, are pregnant women who are surprised by these false contractions, with a 5-question test, pregnant women can understand whether these contractions are false labor pains or not, and do not panic in vain.

Pregnancy is a long process that causes many changes in the body and spirit of the expectant mother.

What is false labor pain?

Pain in the first months of pregnancy usually occurs due to the enlargement of the uterus, stretching of the ligaments holding it. It is a constant, mild and widespread pain in the groin area. In the last three months, these pains are more in the form of hardening. These pains, called Braxton Hicks Contractions, are known as false labor pains.

The most important feature of these contractions that distinguishes them from real labor pains is that they do not come regularly. False labor pains are contractions that prepare the mother and her uterus for real labor pains and usually begin around the 24th week.

In which situations is pain more common?

These pains occur more in situations such as sexual intercourse, being dehydrated, getting tired after standing for a long time, the baby being very active, and getting a blow to the abdomen.

The answers to the question test are important.

Not every abdominal and groin pain felt will not be a sign of childbirth, and even a simple constipation can cause abdominal pain.

Don t stress yourself and your baby to panic and rush to hospitals. We see in our own practice that, considering that the birth has begun, approximately 60-70% of the patients apply because of false labor pains. When you feel any pain and contraction, especially in the last trimester of your pregnancy, you should ask yourself the following questions:

• Does my pain come regularly, that is, with the same frequency?

• Is the severity of my pain increasing?

• Does it go away when you lie down, rest or move, drink fluids or massage?

• Is there a feeling of downward pressure along with the pain?

• Is there any bleeding, watering or other discharge with the pain?

If the answer is "yes" to all of them, contact your doctor immediately. If the answer is no and you feel that your baby is playing often after the pain has passed, you can relax.
